Dear Reader, Spring disappeared in a wash of cold rain, and summer is getting close to it’s hot humid end. Bees are buzzing and tomatoes ripening, apricot jam has been made, pesto blended and frozen. Family time has taken precedence over studio time, but still things got done. New techniques explored (there was a learning vacation in May) and lots of paper decorated. Visit my Etsy shop, you’ll find new papers for your own crafting projects. Enjoy these dog days, Miss Hellebore

Hello Dear Visitor,
Before February slips aways, just a quick hello with some show-offy pictures. Back in the summer I spent a few days marbling greens at the request of a designer from Nordstroms. She was on the team working on a corprate gala, the paper was to be a part of a forest theme. A limited licensing contract was agreed upon. (Having dragged my heels requesting pictures I just got these, the folks at Nordstroms couldn’t have been nicer) The design team used my paper in such a fun way, it makes me smile when I look at the images. Because I’m feeling puffed up and proud I wanted to share. Humbly hope you enjoy them, Miss Hellebore Dear Visitor, It’s been a long time, the list of reasons, equally long. Unbelievably the holidays have come and gone as has the month of January. The days are doing their hopeful lengthening, even if winter is not thinking of leaving. Pantone declared ultra-violet the 2018 color of the year. I was more than happy to spend a few cheerful days marbling some purple violet papers. They are in the Etsy shop, along with several other new papers. Stop by, take a peek. All my best, Miss Hellebore Hello Dear Visitor The magic of summer is amazing, it managed to disappear right before my eyes. How in the world did it do that?!? And how can it be that Thanksgiving menu plans are already being made? While the studio has not been gathering dust, it hasn’t been suffering from over use either. In July Nordstroms requested some paper for their corporate anniversary party. It took a few days to come up with the colors and pattern that pleased them. August, held its own wonder, as a new granddaughter kept me happily occupied outside the studio. In September and October I sent samples off to a bookbinder in Finland. Ultimately they may not use my paper but its been a fun exercise. I get a kick out of marbling and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. The trails from this and the Nordstroms project will probably turn up in my own paper art and bookbinding endeavors. So now here we are in November, the Chicago weather is turning cold and the leaves need raking but its time to dive into the studio and make stuff before a blink of the eyes finds me in 2018. All my best, Miss Hellebore Hello Dear Visitor,
It's midsummer, which astounds me. It may be the heat but my ability to focus tends to go down as the temperature goes up. It's been pretty hot out. As I have been flitting from one thing to another my faithful assistant, Claire, has been taking care of the Paper Emporium. Without her there wouldn't be a shop. Stop by and take a look at our recently added paste papers and card sets. Thanks for stopping by, Miss H www.misshellebore.etsy.com Hello Dear Reader,
The paste paper adventures culminated in teaching a workshop at a senior citizen residence. I was inspired by the folks who signed up for the class. Several arrived in wheel chairs, a good number of participants were in their 90's and one was 104! All came to try something they had never done before, and most had fun. I know what they say about curiosity and cats, but I think for people it's a good thing. I'm sure I gained more then I gave but that's often the way with this sort of thing. This weekend heralds in summer. Enjoy, MissH Hello Dear Visitor, It's one of those glorious days in Chicago; warm, sunny and breezy. My new bees seem happy in their hive. It's fun to watch all the activity. That doesn't get much done in the studio, but some days are like that. Last week I spent a couple of days mucking about with paste paper. It's a simple process that can produce beautiful results. I'm still working toward beautiful, but am pleased with the progress. Enjoy the greening landscape, Miss Hellebore Hello Dear Readers, Spring is still in a quiet place here in Chicago. The neighborhood oaks are in a soft green haze of tiny emerging leaves. The male goldfinches are beginning to sport a few look at me feathers. In a couple of weeks they will be an eye catching yellow. It's a wardrobe change that always makes me smile. Hellebores are in bloom, and a few magnolias. Gentle colors. I was marbling with early spring in mind. Thanks for visiting, Miss Hellebore Hello Dear Visitor We sprang forward this weekend. I for one celebrate the evening light, or I will once I get over the morning grogginess. The sweet little crocuses and Japanese irises don't care what we do with our clocks, they have been in bloom over a week. A couple of weeks ago I celebrated filling a sketchbook front to back by making a new one. The thing about making your own sketchbook is you can fill it with paper of your own choosing. For the cover I used brown book cloth and paper from the project drawer. I don't know how many times I over marbled this particular piece, it's quite dark. The binding is not perfect, but good enough. Should hold together for the years it will be knocking around in my studio. All the best, Miss Hellebore Dear Reader,
Chicago's warm winter has me wondering when the other snowshoe is going to drop. Part of me appreciates the warmth, the other feels uneasy about it. Even so, it's too early to put away the studio space heater, Miss H. is a sweater wearing, tea drinking wimp. Today, after enjoying the out of doors for a bit, some studio musts had to get done. To list items in our Etsy shop, I scan the papers, color correct the images, and send them to my business partner daughter, who then posts them to our shop. (It's all so technical for someone who would rather be mucking about with paints.) Be looking out for some paste papers and card sets in our shop in the next little while. Hope you'll like them. All my best, Miss Hellebore |
